Delhi MBBS Counselling & Admission – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

MBBS counselling for Delhi medical colleges is conducted through different authorities depending on the quota. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for 15% All India Quota seats in government medical colleges. For the remaining seats, counselling is handled by institutions such as Delhi University and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University depending on the college affiliation. Candidates who qualify the NEET-UG examination must register for the appropriate counselling authority and participate in seat allotment rounds to secure admission in Delhi medical colleges.
Yes, qualifying the NEET-UG examination is mandatory for admission to MBBS courses in Delhi medical colleges. The National Testing Agency conducts NEET every year, and all government and private medical colleges in Delhi accept admissions only through this examination. Candidates must secure the minimum qualifying percentile to become eligible for counselling. Without a valid NEET score, students cannot apply for MBBS admission in Delhi. The NEET rank obtained by candidates plays a crucial role in determining seat allotment during the counselling process.
To be eligible for MBBS admission in Delhi, candidates must pass Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board. Students must obtain at least 50 percent marks in PCB subjects for the general category, while reserved categories have slightly lower eligibility criteria. In addition, candidates must qualify for the NEET examination and meet the age requirements set by the National Medical Commission. Eligibility criteria may also include domicile requirements depending on the counselling authority and quota.
Delhi MBBS counselling generally includes multiple rounds such as Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and sometimes a Stray Vacancy Round. During each round, candidates can register, fill choices, and receive seat allotments based on their NEET rank and preferences. If a candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat, they may participate in subsequent counselling rounds according to the rules. The number of counselling rounds may vary each year depending on seat availability and admission guidelines issued by the counselling authorities.
Candidates must present several important documents during Delhi MBBS counselling and admission. These typically include the NEET admit card, NEET scorecard, Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, passing certificates, valid photo identification proof, passport-size photographs, and counselling registration details. Reserved category candidates must also submit caste or category certificates if applicable. Some colleges may require additional documents such as domicile certificates, migration certificates, and medical fitness certificates. Proper document verification is mandatory before confirming admission to the allotted medical college.
In Delhi government medical colleges, most MBBS seats are reserved under the state quota. Generally, around 85 percent of seats are allotted through the state quota while 15 percent are reserved under the All India Quota. Candidates applying under the state quota may need to meet specific eligibility conditions such as studying in schools located in Delhi or fulfilling institutional requirements. State quota counselling allows local students to secure admission in Delhi medical colleges based on their NEET rank and eligibility criteria.
Choice filling is an important step in the Delhi MBBS counselling process. After registering for counselling, candidates must log into the counselling portal and select their preferred medical colleges in order of priority. Students should carefully choose and arrange their college preferences based on their NEET rank, expected cutoff, and personal preferences. The seat allotment system then processes these choices along with the candidate’s rank and category to allocate seats. Proper choice filling can significantly improve the chances of getting a desired medical college.
After seat allotment in Delhi MBBS counselling, candidates must download the allotment letter and report to the allotted medical college within the specified deadline. During reporting, students must complete document verification and pay the admission fees to confirm their seat. If a candidate fails to report within the given time, the allotted seat may be cancelled and offered to another candidate in the next counselling round. Once admission is confirmed, students can begin the MBBS course according to the academic schedule.
Yes, candidates can choose the option of seat upgradation during Delhi MBBS counselling. If a student is allotted a seat in the first round but wants a better college, they may participate in the next counselling round while keeping their existing seat. During the next round, if a higher preferred college becomes available based on the candidate’s rank, the seat may be upgraded automatically. However, candidates should carefully read counselling guidelines before opting for seat upgradation.
The NEET rank plays a crucial role in Delhi MBBS admission because seat allotment is primarily based on the candidate’s rank in the NEET examination. Students with higher ranks have better chances of securing admission in top medical colleges such as AIIMS New Delhi, Maulana Azad Medical College, or Vardhman Mahavir Medical College. Since Delhi has limited MBBS seats and high competition, even small differences in NEET rank can significantly affect admission outcomes during counselling.
